Before we can look at the problems of the sound card and the audio driver, let us try to understand what the audio driver really is and how the basic driver works.
We have to look at what the concept of the device driver is, and what it really is. It is a computer programme within the operating system that allows the computer to actually communicate and interact with any software or hardware within the computer.

What you need to know is that the driver is a device that channels data and instructions to the computer to form the basis of the functionalities of the hardware itself. The sub routines and routines of the hardware can then be performed as and when needed, and this is the basic function of the device driver. If you really want to put it in the simplest terms possible, what the driver is, is a translator that works to help bridge communication between the different codes of the hardware and the software.

Drivers can be looked at in two basic terms, which are the logical and the physical layers of their operation. Logical process are reserved for more network based hardware, like modems or even routers, while the physical layers are of course for those more internalised hardware. Writing a device driver is not an easy task, because the person who is going to do this would need to know how to actually base one off of another hardware and software, based on platforms. For example, Windows would be one of the platforms that we would be talking about here. A device driver needs to be well programmed because if not, it can either crash the system, the hardware or even affect a universal crash as well.

Now that we know what the driver is, what we need to know is how to resolve the common sound issue problems when we do come face to face with them. The first thing that we need to do is to know whether or not the problem actually lay with the sound driver, and if we have established that, all we need to do is to actually just replace the sound driver with a new one, and that takes a fresh install and a download from the manufacturer’s website. This is all you need to do to actually resolve the problem.
